Research Visit Expectations
- Research visits can only be arranged during the Library Building's working hours between 8:00 am to 4:30 pm on Mondays-Fridays. On days that the college or library are closed, research visits will not be possible.
- Research visits can be made with five (5) business days notice or as far out as two months (60 days) in advance.
- The default research visit duration is two (2) hours. If additional time is needed, please arrange your visit by email. Longer visits are permissible on a case-by-case basis depending on the availability of Library staff.
- Library staff will be on hand during your entire visit for supervision if you require assistance.
- Special Collections materials may NOT be removed by visitors from the Special Collections room under any circumstances.
- Please limit your visitors to no more than two individuals. If your party may be larger, please reach out ahead of time to our director to arrange your visit.
- Food and drink are not permitted in the Special Collections room.
- Pencils are provided -- markers, pens, and other writing instruments are not permitted for use by visitors.
- Duplication of material by camera or smartphone is permitted for most materials, but some materials have additional restrictions due to donation agreements. Flash photography is NOT allowed however.
- Visitors may be held liable for damage to materials -- it is expected that visitors will treat materials with the utmost care and consideration and follow any directions provided by Library staff concerning using the materials during the visit.

Library Funds
John and Mary Shipper Byrer Book Fund - Annual income from this fund shall be used by the library to purchase books as needed. Preference would be given to West Virginia books.
Lonny J. and Richard J. Watro Library Endowment - Spendable income from this fund shall be used annually or otherwise at the discretion of the Director of the Library, in consultation with the Dean of Academic Affairs to aid the operations of the Potomac State College Library. In using the spendable income, the Director and Dean shall give emphasis to areas and needs that would have the broadest impact on the patrons of the Library.
Library Improvement Fund - Non-endowed fund will be used to enhance or expand library facilities and resources on the Potomac State College campus. Fund uses include capital improvements, information technology, library acquisitions (books, electronic databases, journals) and other learning resources.
