Friends of the Library Cards

Anyone 18 years of age and over with a valid photo ID: (i.e. driver’s license, passport, etc.) may purchase a Friends of the Library card.

The annual cost of the Friends of the Library card is $60.00. Friends of the Library cards are available from the Downtown, Evansdale and Health Sciences Libraries Access Services desks.  After a brief application form is completed onsite, it takes about 3-5 days to create a Friends of the Library account and card.  The new user will receive an email when the account has been set up and a logon created.  At that point, the user can pick up their card at the library at which they applied.

Cards are valid for one year from the date the account is created. Friends of the Library users receive a semester loan period and may access library electronic resources at computer workstations located within the WVU Libraries. Online authentication is required. Friends of the Library card holders do not have remote access to electronic library databases.

No family cards are available at this time. Institutional cards are available.

Institutional Level Cost # of user cards and logon accounts # of books that can be borrowed (total)
Blue $120 2 30
Gold $240 5 50
Platinum $600 12 100

Some library services, including interlibrary loan, document delivery, laptop loans, group study rooms, reserve materials, multimedia equipment, or periodicals are limited to WVU students, faculty and staff.

Children under the age of eighteen are eligible to use library services if a parent who has purchased a card agrees to cover any cost incurred as a result of a lost or damaged loan. When an application is completed by a parent who is interested in allowing under-age children to use their privileges, a permission form can be completed. The Library will keep this permission form on file and will contact the adult of record if necessary.
