PALCI Reciprocal On-Site Borrowing Program
Some PALCI (Pennsylvania Academic Libraries Consortium, Inc.) libraries have chosen to extend free library use and on-site borrowing privileges to the patrons of the other PALCI member libraries. Each PALCI library participating in this program has determined which categories of patrons (faculty, students, and staff) from the other participating libraries are eligible to use their library and borrow materials on-site.
Patron Procedures
- Confirm the library you want to visit participates in this program.
- Complete the Authorization Form and have it approved by an Authorized Staff Member at your Home Library.
- Take the completed form to the library you want to visit (Host Library). You may be asked for additional information to complete the registration process.
- You are responsible for the materials you borrow from the Host Library you visit and are required to adhere to their due dates and policies.
- You are responsible to return the items to the Host Library from which they were borrowed. Your Home Library may or may not agree to return items to the Host Library; check with your Home Library to determine their policy.
GWLA Onsite Reciprocal Circulation Agreement
Reciprocal circulation is a collaborative service whereby the faculty, staff and students of participating university libraries within GWLA (Greater Western Library Alliance) may borrow library materials on-site at other participating member libraries.
University of Pittsburgh
The University of Pittsburgh Library System and WVU Libraries have a reciprocal borrowing agreement that provides the following privileges pertaining only to circulating books at each institution:
- Books that circulate to primary users at each institution are available to registered users from the other on the same basis
- Pitt limits users to ten books under this agreement.
- Users must have a validated library card or another acceptable means to authenticate their current status.
This agreement pertains to students and faculty at both institutions. Fines incurred by WVU users at Pitt Libraries will be the responsibility of that user. Users who do not pay fines and/or replacements costs at Pitt will be blocked from borrowing privileges at West Virginia University Libraries until the debt is paid. This agreement is re-negotiated each year by the respective director and Dean of the participating institutions. Check Pitt's page on Special Borrower Cards for further information.
OCLC Reciprocal Faculty Borrowing Program
Program
West Virginia University participates in the OCLC Reciprocal Faculty Borrowing Program which allows faculty members of participating institutions to have library borrowing privileges and on-site access to the collections of some of the most important research libraries in North America. This program was developed under the aegis of the Research Libraries Advisory Committee to OCLC and is designed to extend library privileges to faculty members at other research universities.
Eligibility
Full and Part-time Faculty in good standing with the WVU Libraries with picture I.D. are eligible to apply for a RFBP card. This card will be valid for one year from date of issue and is renewable.
Procedures
Faculty members may request a list of participating libraries and a RFBP card at the Access Services Desk at any of the Morgantown WVU Libraries. After filling out a form the faculty member will be issued a card along with a brochure of participating institutions. The faculty member is solely responsible for following the lending rules of the reciprocal library and for returning any borrowed materials on time.
To borrow materials, faculty present the RFBP card, along with a WVU ID, at the Circulation Desk of the library from which they are borrowing.
